Diego Simeone refuses to deny Atletico Madrid interest in Chelsea star Marcos Alonso
According to the Metro, Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has refused to deny interest in Chelsea outcast Marcos Alonso.
The 30-year-old has fallen out of favour at the club since his disagreement with Frank Lampard at The Hawthorns. He has not featured for the club since and is behind Ben Chilwell and Emerson Palmieri in the pecking order.
According to the Express, Chelsea are open to parting ways with the player in the January transfer window.
Simeone refused to be drawn into the conversation regarding Alonso. His focus was on Atletico’s clash against Getafe on Wednesday.
“I am not talking about what is being said from the outside.”
Meanwhile, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is willing to part ways with Alonso. The defender has three more years on his current deal at Stamford Bridge.
Alonso too has done little to make life easier for him. The Spaniard created unneeded controversy after he liked an Instagram post regarding Chelsea’s loss against Arsenal.
The defender has no future at Chelsea. The Blues believe they can secure £20m for the player’s services.
The 30-year-old was earlier linked with a move to Italian giants Inter Milan and Juventus. The former, currently managed by ex-Chelsea boss Antonio Conte, also unsuccessfully tried to take the Spaniard on a loan. (h/t Express)
