“Yes” – Chelsea veteran star outlines his plans for 2022 World Cup

Thiago Silva says he wants to continue his good form at Chelsea to feature in the 2022 World Cup

Talking to the club media (h/t Chelsea FC website), Thiago Silva mentions why he chose Chelsea and how his performances for the club will help him get selected for the upcoming FIFA World Cup.

Chelsea signed Brazilian defender Thiago Silva on a free transfer from Paris Saint-German in the summer. Since his signing, he has formed a stellar partnership at the back for the Blues alongside Kurt Zouma.

His impact has been immediate and visible in the impressive defensive statistics for Frank Lampard’s side. Chelsea have conceded just 8 goals in the 10 league games that he has featured in.

The defender said a resounding “yes” when asked if he is hopeful of featuring for Brazil in the 2022 FIFA World Cup final in two years’ time.

However, he knows that he will have to keep performing for Chelsea for that to happen.

Why Silva joined Chelsea

Silva revealed that he chose Chelsea so that he could continue playing at a high level. The centre-back knows that club performances do tend to matter when it comes to selection for national teams.

“I chose this club to keep playing at a very, very high level. Of course, my ambition is to keep working hard to play at the next World Cup.”

The former PSG defender, however, does not want to get too ahead of himself. He says that his focus right now is to ensure that his country keeps winning matches to qualify for the 2022 World Cup. (h/t Chelsea FC website)

Thiago Silva started his senior career at Brazilian club Fluminense.
