Chelsea youngster Marc Guehi set to benefit from three first-team exits following an impressive loan spell

According to The Athletic, Chelsea youngster, Marc Guehi appears to be in contention to be the next youngster to make the step up to the first team.

The young defender is currently on loan at Championship side Swansea City. Guehi has made 15 first-team appearances for the Swans as they currently occupy the third spot in the English second tier.

The player’s performances for the Welsh side have convinced those at Chelsea that he has a future at the Bridge.

The 20-year-old Guehi is a product of the Blues’ youth academy. He made his senior debut for the club in September last year, in the Carabao Cup clash against Grimsby Town.

He made two appearances for our senior squad before moving to the Liberty Stadium this summer. It is his second spell on loan with Swansea having spent the second half of last season with them.

While the player is set to remain with the Swans until the end of the season, Chelsea will be keeping a keen eye on him. Guehi could be in action later tonight against Frank Lampard’s former side Derby County.

According to the report, Guehi will join Lampard’s first-team squad for pre-season training next summer when a decision will then be taken if he is ready or is in need of another loan spell.

While Chelsea do have five senior centre-backs at their disposal, the futures of Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger are far from secure. Fikayo Tomori is also struggling for game time. (h/t Express)

This could give Guehi the opening he needs to make himself into a Chelsea mainstay. Thiago Silva and Kurt Zouma are currently the first-choice pairing at the back.
