Speaking on the Here We Go podcast (h/t The Mirror), transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Chelsea face competition in their pursuit of Borussia Monchengladbach star Denis Zakaria.
The 24-year-old came through the youth ranks at Swiss club Servette and spent a couple of seasons with BSC Young Boys before making the switch to Borussia Monchengladbach in 2017.
He has since developed into one of the best box-to-box midfielders in the German top-flight. As yet, Zakaria has featured 100 times across all competitions, scoring 8 goals and assisting six more.
According to Romano, both Manchester United and Manchester City chasing his signature.
“There is nothing advanced yet because they are not negotiating yet with Borussia Monchengladbach, they need time.”
While he remains on the Cityzens’ radar, negotiations with Borussia Monchengladbach are yet to take place.
Zakaria has made just four appearances this season and is yet to finish a game. This is due to a knee injury that he sustained in March. He only returned to action in November.
With the likes of N’Golo Kante not getting any younger and Declan Rice potentially costing a bomb, bringing in Zakaria is an option we could pursue.
The Blues have shown they have both the cash and the ability to take the transfer window by storm. Bringing in Zakaria would be a shrewd piece of business given the player’s athleticism and potential.
