Fikayo Tomori pushing for permanent Chelsea exit in January

According to The Athletic (h/t The Metro), Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori is pushing to leave the club permanently in January.

The 23-year-old made his first-team breakthrough last season and enjoyed a spell of games under Frank Lampard. He has however fallen down the pecking order and made just three appearances during the current campaign.

Thiago Silva and Kurt Zouma are the club’s preferred centre-back partnership this season. With the likes of Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger also available, Tomori’s chances of becoming a regular are somewhat suspect.

According to the report, the Blues too have issues regarding the youngster’s concentration and aerial prowess.

Tomori continues to be highly regarded by the club. The player however has grown frustrated due to his limited opportunities. Having spent this season as a fringe player, he is keen to call it quits at the Bridge.

Chelsea meanwhile is keen on sending the player out on loan once the window opens in January. The likes of Leeds United, Newcastle United, and Rennes have all been linked to the young defender.

Tomori could have left the club last summer on loan. The likes of West Ham United were keen, only for the player to turn down the opportunity.

Frank Lampard had recently admitted that Tomori could find it difficult to garner regular game time at Chelsea. Already 23, he will do well to secure a move away and resurrect his career elsewhere.

With both sides having reservations regarding the player’s prospects at the club, an amicable parting of the ways would be the best solution.

Chelsea have the likes of Ethan Ampadu and Marc Guehi impressing out on loan. If either of them can live up to their potential, Tomori is not likely to be a player the Blues will miss.
