“He will leave Stamford Bridge”: Out-of-favour Chelsea starlet tipped to join Ligue 1 side on loan

Fikayo Tomori backed to join Rennes on a six-month loan in January

The youngster has not featured much for Chelsea this season. With Thiago Silva and Kurt Zouma the preferred choice at the back, the Blues have seen a resurgence in their defensive prowess.

“It’s almost certain that he will leave Stamford Bridge on loan next season, he’s only featured in one Premier League or Champions League game this season.”

With the likes of Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger also in the mix, Tomori is effectively the fifth choice center-back.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is keen to see the 22-year-old find regular playtime. While that would be fanciful at Chelsea, Crooks believes Tomori has a good chance of achieving just that at Rennes.

Rennes’ interest in Tomori is not new. In fact, the French side were keen to sign him last summer as part of the Edouard Mendy deal. West Ham United looked to be on course to land the defender in the summer only for him to change his mind at the last moment.

Tomori’s situation has seen a number of teams including Leeds United express their interest in signing him. According to the report, it would seem that a spell across the Channel is the most likely.

“I’m told Rennes is now the most likely destination for Tomori.”

Tomori is quite a decent player who has not done too shabbily when called upon. His exclusion from the Chelsea side is more due to the quality we possess ahead of him rather than anything he lacks.

A move away would help him rekindle his career and restart the development that has stalled with him on the bench.
