Club legend opens up on donning Chelsea jersey after five years

Chelsea legend Petr Cech made his comeback for the club against Tottenham Hotspur in Premier League 2

Chelsea legend Petr Cech rolled back the years as made his comeback for the club in our Premier League 2 clash against Tottenham Hotspur U23 on Monday.

It was the first time that the 38-year-old has donned the Chelsea jersey since moving to Arsenal in 2015. Cech spent four seasons with the Gunners before returning to the Bridge as the club’s technical and performance director in 2019.

In fact, his final appearance for Arsenal was against Chelsea in the 2019 Europa League final. A match which we won 4-1.

Following the game, Cech took to Instagram to relive his first competitive fixture in 565 days. Although he initially found the going hard, it became easier as the match went on.

To say he looked rusty would have been an understatement. Cech played the ball out for a corner with his first touch and Spurs scored from the ensuing set-piece. It got worse when our London rivals went 2-0 up to gain control of the game.

As he has often done for us, Cech did not let adversity get to him and improved as the game went on. It appears to have rubbed off on his teammates with the Blues going on to win 3-2.

Petr Cech made his Chelsea return against Tottenham Hotspur U23

Cech was a shock inclusion in Chelsea’s 25-man Premier League squad earlier this season. While it may be far-fetched to expect him to start for the first-team, it was good to see him don the Blues jersey once again.

A four-time Golden Glove winner, Cech made 494 appearances for the Chelsea senior side. (h/t Transfermarkt)

It was good to see Cech in action in Blue once again. Despite turning 38, it is easy to see why he was included in our Premier League squad. Not many clubs will have a player of his calibre to call upon as their third-choice keeper.
