According to Sky Sports, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has revealed that winger Christian Pulisic remains a work in progress.
The American international has proven himself to be a dominant attacker since joining the club in the summer of 2019. However, injuries have prevented him from putting together a consistent run of form.
He is expected to be fit to face Everton tomorrow. A win will see us climb to the top of the league at least for a day.
“We know his abilities, that’s very clear.”
Lampard revealed that Chelsea are still working hard to find the right balance of work and rest to help the 22-year-old thrive at the club.
“Christian is a work in progress. I don’t want to call this an injury he had in midweek. If the game had been a different type of game then maybe I would have used him.”
The prospect of Pulisic partnering the likes of Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech and Kai Havertz is a very exciting prospect. However, that may not be on show regularly if his fitness doesn’t improve.
“I just have to find the right way to get the best out of him regularly and consistently.”
Pulisic has made just eight appearances this season scoring two goals. Hamstring issues have proven to be the biggest hindrance to him playing for the club. (h/t Transfermarkt)
The 22-year-old has made 42 appearances for Chelsea. At the same time, he has also missed 25 games due to injury. It will be an exciting day when Lampard does indeed figure out how to best deploy the winger.
Pulisic was arguably our best player last season. With a busy schedule in front of us, he will hopefully get enough chances to get back to his best.
He might yet have a key role to play for us this campaign.
