Talking to TMW via Focus (h/t Football.london), Chelsea defender Emerson Palmieri has opened up on his future at the club.
The Italian star has fallen down the pecking order since the signing of Ben Chilwell. With Marcos Alonso’s fall from grace, it can be argued that he is above the Spaniard in the club’s current plans.
This has done liittle to improve his prospects. In fact, Emerson has made just four appearances this season, just one of them from the start. (h/t Transfermarkt)
The footballing world has not bene immune to the coronavirus pandemic. Emerson understands the dynamics are currently unlike any we have seen before. (h/t Football.london)
Despite his lack of appearances, he is hopeful that things will improve, whether it be at Chelsea or elsewhere. It would appear that he is open to a switch if it gives him more opportunities. (h/t Football.london)
“I think things will improve, in London or elsewhere.”
The summer was rife with stories of him getting interest from Italy. Emerson has revealed that while he would love to return to Serie A, there was no concerete approach made for his services in the summer. (h/t Football.london)
“I received interest, not only from Italy. Nothing concrete , but obviously I’d love to return to Serie A.”
He remains unsure if he will get an opportunity to return in January. However, given his willingness to do so and his standing at the club, it would be best for all parties if the club moved him on. (h/t Football.london)
“I do not know if it will happen in January or in five years, I can’t say. In football everything changes too quickly.”
Given the peripheral importance he has at Chelsea, him moving to Serie A would give him more opportunities to play. With the Euros set to be held next summer, it would surely help his case in being selected for the Italian squad.
Emerson has made 59 appearances for Chelsea across all competitions. During this time, he has scored one goal and assisted five. (h/t Transfermarkt)
