According to Football.london, Chelsea ace Thiago Silva is keen to stay at the club beyond this season.
The 36-year-old joined the Blues on a free earlier this summer after his contract at PSG expired. Although he endured a difficult debut against West Bromwich Albion, Silva has since turned himself into a mainstay in defence.
The Chelsea defence too has benefitted from his leadership and ability. Clean sheets are more of a regular occurrence today at the Bridge than it was prior to his arrival.
The Brazilian despite his age remains a key member of both club and country. His current deal at Stamford Bridge runs until the end of next summer.
If his words are to be believed, he intends to stay much longer. It augurs well for the club who have benefitted greatly from his presence.
“I hope to continue to play well and that my contract will be renewed.”
Along with Ben Chilwell and Edouard Mendy, Silva has injected fresh life to the Blues backline. Despite making the jump from the French to the English league, he has adapted quite well.
The Brazilian is happy to be trained by Blues legend Frank Lampard. Having faced him as a player, Silva is well aware of his boss’ abilities.
“I am very proud to be coached by someone (Frank Lampard) who was one of the best midfielders in the world and to have faced him as a player.”
While Silva may not be a long-term option, his experience can help mould the younger players we have at the club.
If he keeps up his performances, there is no reason why the club should not extend Silva’s contract. The Brazilian is one of the best defenders in the league and long may it continue.
