Chelsea target David Alaba could be on his way out of Bayern Munich
According to BILD (h/t Football.london), Bayern Munich defensive star David Alaba is open to leaving the club after negotiations over a new contract fell through.
The 28-year-old Alaba has been with Bayern since 2010 and has played an integral role in the club’s success over the last decade. However, his future at the club is uncertain now, with the Austrian entering the final year of his contract.
Talks over a new deal had been going on, but as per the report, Bayern Munich have decided to withdraw their contract offer, which could now force Alaba to leave the club at the end of the season.
Chelsea had been linked with a move for the 28-year-old in the summer when Frank Lampard was looking to bolster his defensive ranks. Along with the Blues, Liverpool too have been credited with an interest in Alaba. (h/t Football.london)
The likes of Juventus, Manchester City and Inter Milan are also monitoring his situation along with Chelsea and Liverpool. However, the report does add that that the versatile defender is hoping to join either Real Madrid or Barcelona.
Primarily a left-back, Alaba has transitioned into a centre-back in recent years and has excelled in the new position. Signing him would secure us a quality defender, who can take over from veteran Thiago Silva.
