A View From The Bridge

“The big key” – Man United legend pinpoints this Chelsea summer signing to lead them to glory

Patrice Evra backs Thiago Silva to lead Chelsea to Premier League glory

Speaking to Sky Sports (h/t The Express), Manchester United icon Patrice Evra has backed Thiago Silva to lead Chelsea to Premier League success.

The 36-year-old joined the Blues from PSG on a free earlier this summer. He has gone on to make himself at home and has brought leadership to a defence that sorely lacked it.

“Thiago Silva will be the big key for their defence.”

This has been reflected in Chelsea’s performances as they make keeping clean sheets a habit. Buoyed by a competent backline, the Blues are now well placed to compete for the title.

“Chelsea are back in the game,”

Thiago Silva has been impressive for Chelsea

Silva has formed a dominant centre-back pairing alongside French star Kurt Zouma. The Brazilian’s eight appearances for the club so far has seen us keep six clean sheets.

Having won 18 titles in eight years at PSG, Silva is used to leading a club to trophies. This know-how and leadership are key additions to a young but promising Chelsea side.

Right in the mix!

Unlike last season, the title race looks to be a more open affair. Defending champions Liverpool are still well placed to retain their spot but have not created a chasm between them and the chasing pack.

Chelsea invested well last summer

Tottenham too look to be the real deal and defeating Manchester City will only have reinforced that belief.

The summer additions have added much-needed balance to a Chelsea side that looked shaky at times last season. A reliable keeper, a strong defence and a free-scoring attack have all been finetuned with an eye on the big prize.

It is quite ironic that after the millions spent, it is the man who came in on a Bosman who could lead us to the trophy.

Frank Lampard has built a strong Chelsea outfit

More Chelsea News

Chelsea briefly went top at the weekend after defeating Newcastle United. We are currently two points off Tottenham at the summit.

The two teams face off next week in what could be a game to remember. Frank Lampard did the double over Jose Mourinho last season. Hopefully, the trend will continue.
