“Not surprised”: Lampard hits back at Jose Mourinho’s diving comments

Frank Lampard responds to Jose Mourinho’s diving allegations against Chelsea

As reported by the Evening Standard, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has said he was unsurprised by Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho’s claims levelling diving allegations against Chelsea.

Mourinho, responding to diving accusations against his star striker Harry Kane, decided to point fingers at his rivals, claiming that players from clubs like Chelsea and Manchester United dive to win penalties. (h/t Evening Standard)

“Kane? I think you are confused. You could be speaking about some Manchester United players, some Man City players, some Liverpool players, some Chelsea players.”

Lampard, however, refused to get drawn into a war of words with his ex-mentor, responding that it was natural for an opposition manager to try and ruffle some feathers with statements like these. (h/t Evening Standard)

“I wasn’t surprised by those comments.  I think it’s very normal that managers in and around the clubs challenging sometimes mention others with those statements. It didn’t affect me.”

It is not new for Mourinho to try and divert attention from his players in order to remove them from the firing line. He used to do it back when he was at Chelsea, and now he’s doing it at Tottenham.

For the record, Chelsea have been awarded eight penalties across all competitions so far this term.

However, Lampard has done the right thing by playing the entire thing down. With the team performing as well as it is, any such bizarre accusations can be answered on the pitch itself by the players.
