Chelsea boss Frank Lampard defends Mason Mount
According to The Mirror, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has come out in defence of youngster Mason Mount.
The youngster made his first-team breakthrough first at Derby County and then at Chelsea under Lampard. He has often been trusted by the Blues boss in a number of crunch games.
This has led to him earning the moniker of a teacher’s pet. Lampard however has refuted such allegations and has cut short the argument that Mount receives preferential treatment.
The Blues boss believes that Mount’s lack of presence on social media and his clear cut image works against him.
Lampard praised the player’s attitude and ability to keep things simple. It comes as huge praise considering the quality of players Lampard has shared a dressing room with.
“He makes really efficient, clean, sharp passes, he presses as well as any midfield player that I’ve worked with or played alongside.”
As someone who can both create and score, Lampard is well aware of the player’s talents. He has backed Mount to keep getting better.
“He can score more goals, he can make more assists, but he’s a quality, quality football player who can only get better.”
The fact that both Lampard and Gareth Southgate keep picking Mount for their teams is no coincidence. Clearly, managers see exactly what the player is capable of, much better than armchair pundits.

In some ways, Mount’s situation is akin to that of Jordan Henderson. Often chastised for being non-showboaty, the Liverpool midfielder is a key cog in Jurgen Klopp’s outfit.
Hopefully, Mount too will go on to become similarly successful at Chelsea. There will always be detractors but Mount can silence them with his performances on the field.
