Frank Lampard reveals plans for Billy Gilmour as youngster steps up injury return
As reported by Football.london, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has claimed that he is ‘excited’ by the return to fitness of Billy Gilmour and insists that the youngster will be a big player for his side.
The 19-year-old midfield sensation joined Chelsea from Scottish giants Rangers back in 2017. He enjoyed his first taste of first-team action in the 2019/20 campaign and Gilmour made quite the impact, delivering impressive performances against the likes of Liverpool and Everton.
However, a serious knee injury he sustained ruled him out of action for the backend of the last season as well as the early parts of the ongoing campaign.
Gilmour, though, is fit again and made his first appearance of the season for the reserves in the Papa John’s Trophy clash against Bristol Rovers. And Lampard has now claimed that he is excited to have the youngster back fit again. (h/t Football.london)
“I am really excited to have him back fit. He will play again at the weekend for the U23s. He is fit, but not match fit. That will be a short period because he is generally a fit boy.”
Further elaborating on the youngster and his situation, Lampard added that he sees him as a big part of his plans, before insisting that he can grow into a very important player for Chelsea for years to come. (h/t Football.london)
“I put Billy in for a big part of the season because of the way he trained. He put in some really good performances before his injury. I have absolute faith in Billy that he is going to be a big player for us for a long time to come.”
