As reported by the Evening Standard, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has compared new signing Thiago Silva to Premier League stalwart defenders Vincent Kompany and Virgil van Dijk.

The 36-year-old veteran defender joined Chelsea this past summer on a free transfer after his contract with Paris Saint-Germain ran out.

After a period of settling in, the Brazilian has looked right at home at the heart of the Chelsea defence, helping the team become a much more solid unit in the process.

Indeed, the veteran centre-back has struck up a fine partnership alongside Frenchman Kurt Zouma, providing a solid platform for the team to build upon.

And Lampard has hailed the impact that the 36-year-old Silva has made, in the process, comparing his career to defenders such as former Manchester City skipper Vincent Kompany and Liverpool mainstay Virgil van Dijk. (h/t Evening Standard)

“In terms of the career he’s had, of course he’s in that bracket, he absolutely walks into that bracket of top centre-backs that includes those players like Van Dijk and Kompany.”

Lampard lavished praise on the Brazilian for the influence he has had on the players, in spite of the language barrier. However, the manager insisted that there is plenty more to come from Silva. (h/t Evening Standard)

“But we need a lot more than that, of course, we need a lot more, so I don’t want to crown him with anything now.”

Silva’s performances over the last month led to him earning a nomination for the Premier League Player of the Month for October.

After a dodgy start, he has come into his own of late and seems to have had an impact on Zouma’s performances as well. The veteran centre-half is proving to be quite a shrewd piece of business.
