Crystal Palace keen on Chelsea outcast Marcos Alonso
According to The Daily Mail, Crystal Palace are keen on Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso.
The Eagles have earmarked the Spaniard as a replacement for former Chelsea left-back Patrick van Aanholt, who is in the last year of his contract.
Although Palace hope the popular Dutchman stays, there is strong interest in Alonso as an alternative, with Marseille’s Jordan Amavi also being tracked.
The 29-year-old has fallen from grace at Chelsea. His abject first-half performance against West Bromwich Albion led to him being taken off at half-time earlier in the season.
This coupled with his behavior after the substitution earned him the ire of Frank Lampard.
While the Chelsea boss is keen to put the incident behind him, Alonso has not played for the club since. With the likes of Ben Chilwell now the undisputed first-choice left-back, the Spaniard will not be missed either.
Despite also being linked with the likes of Sevilla, there was a lack of progress in any deal that would have taken Alonso away from Chelsea in the summer.
Alonso risks being a forgotten figure at the club. A move away would be the best for all parties involved.
