Chelsea star sent back to the club after pulling out of international duty

Christian Pulisic seems to have suffered another setback this season

United States winger Christian Pulisic had joined up with the national side during the international break as he continued his return from injury.

However, the 22-year-old was sent back to Chelsea a little early and will continue his rehab in England.

The head of the US men’s team, Gregg Berhalter, confirmed that Pulisic would be returning and added that the youngster was already carrying a knock but wanted to train with his international teammates.

This is the latest setback the American has been dealt this season. He only has three starts for Chelsea this season and has been troubled by a hamstring problem (h/t Metro).

Pulisic’s last game was against Krasnodar, where he did score a goal. However, he hasn’t played since and it is a bit of a worry as he cut short his international journey.

Injury issues continue

The American had similar niggles last season too. Pulisic only started 19 Premier League games for us but still impressed with nine goals and four assists in the competition.

Hopefully, he hasn’t aggravated the issue as many international stars are picking up injuries in this tough season.

Liverpool have lost several stars due to knocks while Manchester City lost Nathan Ake recently. Pulisic also has another problem at Chelsea, and that is the rise in competition for places.

The likes of Kai Havertz, Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner have added depth to our attack. While none of them is an out-and-out winger like Pulisic, they all could do a job out wide if needed.

Werner and Havertz have started to get their bearings in England while Ziyech has been exceptional after missing the start of the season with an injury.

Pulisic is still a quality talent and having him fit provides Frank Lampard with more rotation options.
