A View From The Bridge

Chelsea could axe five players this January as Granovskaia eyes mass clearout

Marina Granovskaia eyeing mass Chelsea clearout in January

According to Eurosport (h/t The Express), Chelsea could axe as many as five players this January window.

The Blues have enjoyed an excellent summer that saw them bring in a number of players. This has seen the club overflow in terms of squad depth, with a number of players now deemed surplus.

It would appear that with January approaching, Marina Granovskaia has taken a decision on their futures at the club.

Kepa Arrizabalaga could leave Chelsea on loan in January

The biggest name on the list is that of Kepa Arrizabalaga. The Spaniard has lost his starting spot to Edouard Mendy who looks to have solved our goalkeeping problem.

With Willy Caballero also at the club, a loan deal for Kepa looks to be the most possible solution. The 26-year-old cost the club a world record fee and also has five years left on his current deal. (h/t The Express)

Left-back Emerson Palmieri is another player who could bid goodbye to Stamford Bridge. He was recently linked to Juventus and Inter Milan. The player too is keen to return to Serie A.

Chelsea were keen on selling Emerson in the summer

However, Emerson’s future could depend on whether Frank Lampard brings Marcos Alonso back into the fold. The Spaniard has not featured since his bust-up with the Blues boss at the Hawthorns. (h/t The Express)

Defender Antonio Rudiger has played a peripheral role this season and could be on his way out. With Thiago Silva proving to be a hit, Chelsea will not miss the German ace much.

Similarly, Olivier Giroud could also be on his way out. He has been linked with a number of clubs and has been asked by Didier Deschamps to seek regular playing time.

The last player on the list is Jorginho. The Italian has often been linked with a move away. Despite being a regular this season, his agent too has opened up on the possibility of him calling it quits.

It remains to be seen who will stay and who will leave come the new year.
