According to Repubblica (h/t The Sun), Chelsea and Napoli are negotiating a loan agreement for Emerson Palmieri.
The Italian is yet to make a Premier League appearance this season. New signing Ben Chilwell is the club’s preferred choice at left-back, meaning Emerson’s opportunities will be limited.
Having joined from Roma in 2018, Emerson has failed to solidify his position in the Blues squad. It would now appear that his London sojourn is heading to a close.
According to the report, Serie A side Napoli could sign the player on loan in January before making the deal permanent next summer.
The player for his part is also keen to return to Serie A. It would appear that he is open to a switch if it gives him more opportunities. (h/t Football.london)
The sale can also see Chelsea recoup money that can aid them in their attempts to sign Declan Rice. Frank Lampard is not against selling Emerson to do so.
If a deal with Napoli is agreed, he will become the second Chelsea player to join Napoli this season.
Midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko joined the San Paolo outfit on loan in October. It was recently reported that both clubs have reached an agreement to make the deal permanent.
It remains to be seen if Emerson will join the Frenchman at Napoli come January.
Emerson has made 59 appearances for Chelsea across all competitions. During this time, he has scored one goal and assisted five. (h/t Transfermarkt)
With Ben Chilwell nursing a back spasm, it remains to be seen if Emerson will start this weekend against Newcastle United.
