Chelsea set to welcome back Kai Havertz

According to Football.london, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has revealed that Kai Havertz will return this weekend.

The German ace had tested positive for coronavirus last month. This saw him go into isolation and miss our last two games against Rennes and Sheffield United.

While the Blues hardly missed a beat and won both fixtures, Havert’z return will give us plenty of options to choose from.

The 21-year-old has so far made 10 appearances for the club since joining this summer. During this time, he scored four goals and assisted three more. (h/t Transfermarkt)

He has often shown enough promise but is still to hit his stride on a consistent basis. Chelsea could go top at least for a short time if they secure all three points at Newcastle United.

Given that the likes of Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech are also finding their feet, Lampard’s side are we dare say well placed to mount a title challenge.

Lampard also went on to confirm that two players will not feature this weekend. This includes Christian Pulisic and Thiago Silva.

While Pulisic is injured, Silva is to be excused owing to his long journey from South America. The Blues boss had earlier talked about using the veteran defender judiciously. With matches against Rennes and Tottenham Hotspur to follow, resting him this weekend makes sense.

The Blues endured a difficult start to the season. Results have since picked up and we are now firmly in the fray to challenge for the top.

The defence has found its mojo while the attack is starting to fire all cylinders. Anything less than three points this weekend would be considered a slip.
