Chelsea set to offer Kurt Zouma a new contract
According to Fabrizio Romano’s Here We Go podcast (h/t Mirror), Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is set to offer Kurt Zouma a new contract.
The Frenchman was part of a porous Chelsea side last season. Following a summer of heavy recruitment, only him and Cesar Azpilicueta have kept their spots in the backline.
Playing alongside Thiago Silva, Zouma has formed an impressive partnership at the heart of the Blues defence.
Backed up by Edouard Mendy, the duo have played a key part in helping us keep a spate of clean sheets this season.
Zouma has just under three years remaining on his current £40,000-a-week deal. Lampard has been impressed by his performances and is eager to lock down his long-term future at the club. (h/t Mirror)
Zouma has played the full 90 minutes in all but one of our Premier League or Champions League games. He has also proven himself to be a key threat at the other end of the pitch.
He has so far scored three goals and kept six clean sheets in 10 games. In the one league game he missed, Chelsea conceded three to West Bromwich Albion. (h/t Transfermarkt)
If anything, it shows how he has grown into a key player for the club. It represents an excellent improvement in a player who was linked with a move away from the club last summer. Both Everton and Tottenham Hotspur were keen but Zouma stayed put.
Thankfully the decision has worked wonders for our fortunes.

The 26-year-old is currently the second longest-serving member of the Blues’ squad. He has finally come of age and established himself as a key member of the Blues’ rearguard.
A new contract would be a just reward for his performances.
