Timo Werner reckons Chelsea have a good chance of winning the Champions League

Speaking ahead of the club’s UEFA Champions League group stage fixture against Rennes (h/t Football.london), Chelsea’s summer signing Timo Werner has claimed that the team has what it takes to go all the way in the competition.

Chelsea have made a solid start to Europe’s premier footballing competition. Part of Group E alongside Sevilla, Krasnodar and Rennes, the Blues are currently sitting top of the pile with four points from two games.

After having played out a 0-0 draw against Sevilla in the opener, Chelsea thrashed Krasnodar 4-0 last week.

And ahead of the game against Rennes on Wednesday, Werner has insisted that the team can go very far in the competition this season. (h/t Football.london)

“We are here to win the Champions League and this year is a good chance. We had a good chance this year or next year. I came here to win titles. We are in a good way and we learn from each other and we have a good chance to go very far.”

Last season, Frank Lampard’s men just about managed to make it through to the knockouts but were put to the sword by eventual champions Bayern Munich in the Round of 16.

However, with a superior squad and quality depth, things can be very different for us this time out.

Werner, who made it to the semi-finals with RB Leipzig last season, has proven to be a fine addition to the side. The German international has bagged five goals and three assists in 10 games so far.

There’s more to come from the 24-year-old and if he gets firing, Chelsea can certainly go a long way in the competition.
