Chelsea legend Ashley Cole has been part of some of the best sides in the club’s history.
It is natural that he understands what it is like to see the Blues at the top of the footballing pyramid. The news that Chelsea went top on Saturday albiet for a short duration would have been music to his ears.
The Blues upturn in fortunes has been aided by the summer recruits coming into their own. Players such as Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech have added bite to the attack.
Others such as Thiago Silva, Ben Chilwell and Edouard Mendy have turned what was a porous attack into one that is getting used to keeping clean sheets. (h/ Football.london)
“They’ve looked so good. It’s just a very steady ship at the moment.”
With the team looking a much-improved and balanced outfit overall, there is real hope that this season can end with silverware being won.
Speaking on BT Sport (h/ Football.london), Cole believes Frank Lampard and Roman Abramovich must take much credit for this transformation.
“Frank has to take a lot of credit for that. The ownership has to take a lot of credit for that for sticking by Frank, just giving him the money to spend.”
Lampard justifiably deserves the accolades coming his way. Having ensured young players made their mark last time around, he has supplemented them with both quality and experience.
Cole is under no doubt that Chelsea are now contenders. Despite an uneven start to the season, we are now very much in the mix for a title challenge. While there is still some way to go, it would be foolhardy to dismiss us. (h/ Football.london)
“There’s so much quality going all the way through the team now.”
Chelsea have not just spent the money this summer but done so with a plan. The players who have come in have all strengthed various aspects of our squad.
We are now a much stronger and hungry outfit with a young core brimming with talent. How far we can is anyone’s guess.
