With the team looking a much-improved and balanced outfit overall, there is real hope that this season can end with silverware being won.

Speaking on BT Sport (h/ Football.london), Cole believes Frank Lampard and Roman Abramovich must take much credit for this transformation.

“Frank has to take a lot of credit for that. The ownership has to take a lot of credit for that for sticking by Frank, just giving him the money to spend.”

Lampard justifiably deserves the accolades coming his way. Having ensured young players made their mark last time around, he has supplemented them with both quality and experience.

Cole is under no doubt that Chelsea are now contenders. Despite an uneven start to the season, we are now very much in the mix for a title challenge. While there is still some way to go, it would be foolhardy to dismiss us. (h/ Football.london)

“There’s so much quality going all the way through the team now.”
