According to Sky Sports, Chelsea have been handed a boost with ace left-back Ben Chilwell returning to England training.
The English international was forced off after 38 minutes against Belgium with a back spasm. There were worries if he would have been fit in time to face Newcastle United this weekend.
While the Blues star is fit enough to return to training alongside his team-mates, it remains unclear whether he will feature against Iceland on Wednesday.
Given the strain the schedule has had on players, let’s hope Gareth Southgate decides against using Chilwell against Iceland.
Moreover, no English player has tested positive for coronavirus. This will also come as a boost for Chelsea, who had four players selected for the international games this month.
Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham are still with the squad while Reece James is now back at the club. The young right-back is suspended for the fixture after being sent off against Denmark last month.
Not playing a part against Iceland will give Chilwell more time to recover. The youngster joined the club from Leicester City this summer and has made an instant impact.
The left-back spot was a troublesome position for the Blues last summer. Bringing in Chilwell has strengthened the spot a great deal.
Having him at our disposal this weekend will definitely make us stronger on the flank.
If Chilwell is ruled out, the Blues will have to make do with Emerson Palmieri and Marcos Alonso. The latter has not featured for the club falling out with Lampard at the Hawthorns.
