Chelsea suffer blow in pursuit of Reading starlet Michael Olise
According to Football League World (h/t Football.london), EFL Championship side Reading have “no plans” to sell teenage starlet Michael Olise, who has emerged as a target for Chelsea.
The 18-year-old Olise spent some time at the Chelsea and Manchester City youth academies before joining the Royals’ setup in 2016. The versatile attacking midfielder broke into the senior team in 2019 but has come into his own in the ongoing season.
So far in 2020/21, Olise has featured twelve times across all competitions for Reading, racking up a return of two goals and three assists in the process. (h/t Transfermarkt)
The youngster’s performance have seen him attract interest from the likes of Arsenal, Everton, Leeds United, Liverpool and Wolves, apart from Chelsea. (h/t Football.london)
There has been interest from abroad as well with the likes of Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig and AS Monaco also monitoring Olise’s situation. (h/t Football.london)
It was recently reported that the attacking midfielder had a release clause of just £8m in his current contract. However, Chelsea, along with the rest of the clubs, have been dealt a blow in the race for the teenager. (h/t Football.london)
As things stand, Reading have absolutely no intentions of offloading their prized asset currently. In fact, it is being claimed that the second-tier side will look to open new contract talks with Olise in the new year. (h/t Football.london)

The number of clubs interested in the youngster is an indicator of the potential that Olise possesses. So, it doesn’t come as a surprise that Reading want to tie him down with a new contract.
It remains to be seen if Chelsea, or any other club for that matter, will make a move for the youngster before that.
