According to Soccer AM (h/t Football.london), Chelsea left-back Ben Chilwell has hailed the impact Thiago Silva has had on the squad.
The Brazilian veteran joined the club on a free after his contract at PSG expired earlier this summer. So far, he has looked the part and has created new life into our backline.
‘He is brilliant to watch on the ball, but in terms of helping everyone around him, he is top as well.”
As a member of our new-look rearguard, Chilwell is a part of the inner circle that has brought about a new defensive solidity.
Silva has helped the Blues keep six clean sheets in his first eight appearances. He also scored his maiden goal for the club in last Saturday’s 4-1 win over Sheffield United at Stamford Bridge.
Chilwell meanwhile admits that the Brazilian has also helped him improve his own game.
“When you train with him and you play with him he just has that calming aura.”
The 36-year-old Silva is a vocal presence at the back and exudes calmness among his teammates. This is in stark comparison to the chaos that engulfed our backline last campaign.
As someone who has played with and against the best in the game, Silva has brought his years of experience to the Bridge. If Chilwell is to be believed, the Brazilian is putting it to good use.
“To be able to play with someone who has played at the top level and can literally help you for the whole 90 minutes… that kind of goes unnoticed – how good he is to play with.”
Silva has been a shrewd signing who has changed much in the way we operate defensively. Despite his age, he continues to be a colossus who can deal with what is thrown at him.
