A View From The Bridge

Former boss in talks with Chelsea star’s representatives ahead of January window

Inter Milan step up talks for Chelsea star N’Golo Kante

According to Italian outlet CalcioMercato via Read Chelsea (h/t Football.london), former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is keen to reunite with N’Golo Kante at Inter Milan.

Conte is well aware of the player’s abilities, having coached him at Stamford Bridge. The Serie A giants are in talks with the French international’s representatives to see if a deal can be struck.

The 29-year-old remains contracted to Stamford Bridge until 2023. This gives us more leverage to command a substantial fee if it comes to potential negotiations.

Antonio Comte signed N’Golo Kante while at Chelsea

Kante was in fact brought to Chelsea by Conte, back in the summer of 2016, from Leicester City. The pair won the Premier League title in their first season together and the FA Cup in the next.

While Conte left Chelsea in 2018, Kante continued to play a key role in the side under his successor Maurizio Sarri. However, last season saw the Frenchman struggle with a lot of injuries.

Now back to full fitness, the midfielder has established himself as a key member of the squad under Frank Lampard.

N’Golo Kante endured an injury-hit season at Chelsea last time out

It is not the first time that Conte has his heart set on bringing Kante to the San Siro. He tried to sign the midfielder last summer. However, a move never materialised. It would appear that the Inter Milan boss hasn’t given up on his pursuit of the France international. (h/t The Sun)

Lampard for his part has been insistent that Kante remains a key part of his plans and will not be sold. He hailed the Frenchman’s performance in the win against Sheffield United in our last game. (h/t The Sun)

It was recently reported that Chelsea is keen to make a move for Declan Rice or Jude Bellingham in 2022. It went on to add that the club hopes to use Kante until then.

It would suggest that the player does have a future at the Bridge. Whether that will change remains to be seen.
