Chelsea loanee Ross Barkley looked to have made the right move when he joined Aston Villa on loan earlier this summer.
The midfielder got off to an excellent start and even formed a dynamic partnership with Villa skipper Jack Grealish. This upturn in form even attracted the attention of Blues boss Frank Lampard.
The Chelsea manager congratulated Barkley and even indicated that there may be a spot for him at the Bridge when he returns next summer.
Unfortunately just as things were looking up, the midfielder has been hit with a hamstring injury. He lasted just five minutes on the pitch against Brighton and was promptly taken off.
While the extent of the injury is not known, it isn’t the first time that the player has suffered from the same issue.
He had previously missed 38 games in the 2017/18 campaign while at Everton due to the same injury. Hopefully, he will be back sooner this time and continue his resurgence under Dean Smith.
