In a surprise move, Chelsea have named club legend Petr Cech in their 25-man Premier League squad for the 2020/21 season.
The 38-year-old currently serves as the club’s technical and performance advisor. He has been added to the roster as an emergency cover owing to the unprecedented coronavirus crisis.
The Czech star last played a competitive game in the 2019 Europa League final for Arsenal against Chelsea.
One of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League era, Cech spent 11 years at the club from 2004-2015. He made 494 appearances for the Blues, keeping 228 clean sheets.
During this time, he won 13 major trophies, including four Premier League titles, four FA Cups and a Champions League.
In Edouard Mendy, Kepa Arrizabalaga and Willy Caballero, Chelsea have three keepers to choose from. With Cech now in the mix, we certainly have the numbers to cope with an emergency,
Interestingly, Cech is a year younger than Caballero. We take a look at how Chelsea fans reacted to the news.
