Olivier Giroud to consider Chelsea future amidst interest from Serie A

Speaking to RMC Sport (h/t The Sun), Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud has revealed that he will consider his future at Stamford Bridge in January.

The French veteran is currently behind the likes of new boy Timo Werner and youngster Tammy Abraham for a starting spot. In fact, two of his three appearances for Chelsea this season have come in the Carabao Cup.

“For the future we will see what happens. I will decide by evaluating the opportunities I will have.”

With the Blues having bowed out of the tournament, the 34-year-old could now have lesser opportunities to contend with.

Despite his age, Giroud is a competent striker capable of stepping up when needed. He showcased just that as France smashed Ukraine 7-1 last night.

The Blues ace nabbed two goals on what was his 100th appearance for the World Cup holders. The brace saw him overtake football legend, Michel Platini, in his country’s all-time scorers list.

Giroud believes he still has two to three years of top-flight football left in him and does not intend to return to Ligue 1. A subsequent stint in the MLS appears to be to his plan going forward.

“I’d like to play at the highest level in Europe for another two or three years, then maybe I’ll go to the United States.”

Both Inter Milan and Juventus were keen on Giroud earlier in the summer. However, a deal did not materialize.

With the Euros set to be held next summer, the French international will need to play regularly in order to win a place in the French squad.

If he continues to play a peripheral role, he might as well be on his way come January.
