According to 90Min (h/t Football.london), Chelsea boss Frank Lampard wants the club to sign Declan Rice at any cost.
The Blues have been heavily linked with a move for the West Ham United star all summer. The 21-year-old was originally at the Chelsea Academy before being released at the age of 14.
Chelsea have enjoyed a brilliant summer that has seen them land six major first-team stars. Adding Rice to that mix would cap off a summer of dreams for the Blues fans.
The Hammers are not keen on losing their prized asset. They have placed a massive £90million price tag on the player.
According to the report, this has failed to dissuade Lampard, who is keen to land the Englishman at any cost.
The manager’s view is however not shared by the Chelsea hierarchy. They still remain unconvinced by a player yet to make 100 Premier League appearances for the Hammers.
A versatile player capable of playing both as a centre-back and a defensive midfielder, Rice will address two key positions.
It was reported earlier that Lampard remains keen on bringing in a new defensive midfielder. Rice would certainly fit the bill. However, time is running out for Chelsea to make their move.
In Rice, Chelsea would not only be getting an excellent prospect but also a player used to the demands of the Premier League.
With just hours to go before the window shuts, it remains to be seen if Chelsea will accede to Lamaprd’s demand.
Doing so would indeed cap off what has been a spectacular summer for the club.
