According to Football.London, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has dismissed claims of being surprised by the impact Christian Pulisic has had at the club.
The American international joined the Blues from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2019. Despite suffering from injuries, the winger has emerged as arguably our most dynamic attacker from last season.
A man for the big occasion, he caused Liverpool plenty of problems and even put us ahead on the FA Cup final last season.
Pulisic has taken to life at Chelsea like a fish to water. RB Salzburg coach Jesse Marsch had said that Lampard may have not expected much from Pulisic owing to him being American.
Marsch’s comments came following a conversation he had with Lampard in a pre-season friendly. Pulisic had scored twice against the Austrians on that night.
Lampard for his part believes the Marsch may have misunderstood their conversation.
“Was surprised that Jesse had managed to read my mind as well as he thought he did. He’s recounted the conversation wrong. I have to put it correct.”
Recounting the interaction, Lampard admits that the Salzburg coach was full of praise for Pulisic. The Blues boss was equally effusive in his praise and excited to see how the young American would develop.
“I spoke about the fact that equally it was so exciting to see how he would develop for us with the talent that he had. That was the conversation, Jesse managed to put it across slightly differently.”
Sometimes things get lost in translation and that looks to be the case here. Whatever may have been said, there are few arguments that Pulisic is amongst our key players today.
The 22-year-old was among the scorers midweek as we won 4-0 away to Krasnodar in Russia. Pulisic has also been given the iconic number 10 jersey vacated by Willian earlier this summer.
The gesture at the very least shows the faith Chelsea have in young Captain America.
