According to Sky Sports, Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga is confident of turning around his fortunes at the club.
The Spaniard has been benched once again after a spate of poor performances. He endured the same at the end of last season when Willy Caballero took his spot in the Chelsea XI.
Kepa began the current season as the club’s number one. However, an unconvincing performance against Brighton was followed by a scandalous one against Liverpool.
That was the last time that the 26-year-old featured for Chelsea. Willy Caballero took over against West Bromwich Albion before Edouard Mendy joined the club.
The Senegalese shot-stopper appears to be Frank Lampard’s preferred choice in goal. Kepa is keen to change just that.
“I am confident to turn the situation around. When I have the opportunity to play I will try to do it the best possible.”
Despite his demotion, Kepa still has a future at the club, according to Lampard. He also refused to criticize the 26-year-old.
Kepa for his part refused to interpret his manager’s words. He however believes that both the club and the country have faith in him.
“Each coach is different on his communication with the players. I am not going to comment on those words.”
Kepa also is the backup for Spain at the international level, behind David de Gea.
With Spain set to play against Switzerland and Ukraine after Portugal, it remains to be seen if Kepa will be given a chance.
