Joe Cole believes Thiago Silva is a top buy for Chelsea
According to BT Sport (h/t Football.london), former Chelsea star Joe Cole believes Thiago Silva could be the club’s signing for the summer.
The veteran Brazilian is one of the six major first-team signings made by the club this summer. He was brought in for free after his contract at PSG expired.
“Thiago Silva is a fantastic signing.”
While Silva does not command the same hype as the likes of Timo Werner or Kai Havertz, he might just be the man to make the most impact.
Given our troubles at the back last season, it was imperative that the club moved quickly to address it this summer. They have done just that by also bringing in Ben Chilwell and Edouard Mendy.
“Thiago coming in, you look around Europe and there isn’t a better veteran centre-back, someone who can come in and not only perform, his job will be to help the players around him on the pitch and off the pitch by setting the tone of what winning is all about.”
Cole believes there is no better veteran defender on the continent. The Brazilian is a leader on the pitch and will give both onus and direction to those around him.
“I think Thiago Silva, as soon as he settles, could be the signing of the season for Chelsea.”
Silva enjoyed a difficult start to life at Chelsea. Starting against West Brom for the first time, he looked out of sorts as the Blues conceded thrice in the first half.
The Brazilian was directly responsible for the second goal after he slipped while in posession. To his credit, he returned against Crystal Palace as Chelsea kept their first clean sheet of the season.
With Silva starting alongside Kurt Zouma, the defence looked assured and compact. Long it may continue.

While there is still a long way to go, Silva’s positive performance after the horrorshow at the Hawthorns bodes well.
Time will tell whether Cole’s assesment of the Brazilian will come true or not.
