“It’s like training” – Chelsea star describes what football is like without fans

Chelsea star Jorginho opens up on playing before empty crowds

Speaking to the club’s official site, Chelsea vice-captain Jorginho has opened up on playing in front of empty stands.

The 28-year-old believes players have to fend for themselves with no fans to spur them on. He has likened the experience to training sessions where a doting audience is often absent.

Crowds have been absent from Stamford Bridge since our 4-0 win over Everton on March 8, 2020. It does not look like they will return anytime soon.

“There is no atmosphere at all so it’s like training really but we have to do it.

Jorginho describes the crowd as the biggest thing he misses on the field today. Players have to do the best they can and the Italian ensures fake crowd noises make it easier for the viewer on TV.

“It’s actually the atmosphere because that is the amazing part of football and I really miss it.”

The Italian is, however, also willing to look at the positives. With crowds now absent, it has become easier than ever for the players and the bench to communicate.

“We love the atmosphere in stadiums but communication is very important in football and sometimes when you cannot talk to each other on the pitch, it’s very hard so that’s the only positive thing about this period.”

It is unfortunate that crowds have not been on hand to witness our new signings perform in person. The players too will realise what the Blue sea is all about once they experience it for the first time.

Until then, they will have to motivate themselves and do their best. While we may not be with them in the stadium, our best wishes always go out to those in Blue.

Chelsea have enjoyed a mixed start to their season. Things have picked up in recent weeks, with the defence stepping up.

Given the young age of our squad, the group looks set to be together for years to come. With them still coming to terms with each other, they should be ready for the fans’ return to Stamford Bridge.
