Edinson Cavani could be up against Chelsea star Thiago Silva this weekend
Speaking to EN24 News (h/t Daily Star), Manchester United star Edinson Cavani has potentially sounded out about lining up against former teammate and Chelsea star Thiago Silva this weekend.
Chelsea take on United in what is the standout fixture of the weekend. The tie will also see two players who were instrumental in PSG’s domestic domination face off against each other.
“It will be great to be able to find him on the pitch.”
Despite their advancing years, the duo is still capable of putting up a show. Given their form over the last decade, it would not be amiss to describe the showdown as an unstoppable force meeting an immovable object.
Cavani is well aware of the Brazilian’s talents. He was full of praise for his former skipper and described the Chelsea man as an excellent footballer.
“He is a very good central defender and an excellent footballer.”
Silva endured a difficult introduction to English football in his debut against West Ham. He has, to his credit, improved, and is now showing why the Blues chose to move for him this summer.
Silva has helped the Blues keep two clean sheets so far. In fact, one does not need to look back too far into the past to gauge that he still has his wits about him.
Older and wiser
The Brazilian veteran was stellar in the Champions League final where he kept Robert Lewandowski quiet for the entirety of the game.
The Polish international is arguably the best striker in the world. It is a testament to Silva’s ability that he could keep Lewandowski goalless despite his age.
The competition between Cavani and Silva be a treat to watch for the neutrals. If the Brazilian’sn history is anything to go by, it will be no surprise if he comes out on top.

The last the duo faced off against each other at club level was when Napoli played AC Milan in 2012. The game ended 0-0 with Cavani having been well constrained.
It will hopefully be more of the same when the duo potentially meet this weekend.
