A View From The Bridge

Talented 23-year-old Chelsea starlet set for yet another Championship loan spell

Birmingham City leading the chase to sign Chelsea starlet Jake Clarke-Salter on loan

According to Goal (h/t The Birmingham Mail), Jake Clarke-Salter looks set to return to the Championship on loan.

The 23-year-old is held in high regard at the club. However, his opportunities in the first-team are limited. He is currently behind the likes of Andreas Christensen, Kurt Zouma, and Thiago Silva in the pecking order.

With the likes of Antonio Rudiger and Fikayo Tomori still at the club, Clarke-Salter is effectively a sixth-choice player at best.

Chelsea starlet Jake Clarke-Salter could join Birmingham City on loan

A loan move would help him garner the game time he requires to further his development. If the report is to be believed, he has no lack of options.

This includes clubs on the mainland such as Trabzonspor and Club Brugge. However, his likely destination appears to be the Championship, where he has already played in two different spells.

In fact, he enjoyed an impressive campaign last season on loan at Birmingham City. He made 23 appearances for the Blues, scoring one goal and one assist. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Chelsea have a number of defenders at the club

The Blues were keen on bringing him back to the club at the end of last season. They now appear to be leading the chase to land him.

Although the European transfer window is shut, Premier League clubs can still make deals with lower league domestic sides until 5 pm on Friday, October 16.

Birmingham have enjoyed a fine summer that has seen them bring in 10 players. Whether Clarke-Salter will be added to that list remains to be seen.

Clarke-Salter came up through the Chelsea ranks and won a number of accolades with our youth team. He was a part of the Chelsea youth side that won the FA Youth Cup in 2014, 2015 and 2016.

The defender has made just one senior appearance for Chelsea. It came against Aston Villa in the 2015/16 season.
