Edouard Mendy picks up injury while on duty for Senegal
According to The Evening Standard, Chelsea star Edouard Mendy has been sent home by Senegal after picking up an injury on national duty.
The 28-year-old sustained a thigh injury ahead of his nation’s AFCON qualifier in Morocco. The goalkeeper has since left the national team and is now back at Chelsea.
The news will come as a worry for the club, who will return to action against Southampton next Saturday.
While Mendy might not have been a high profile transfer, his capture could yet prove t be the most significant.
Chelsea have lacked a dependable goalkeeper in goal with both kepa Arrizabalaga and Willy Caballero struggling.
Mendy immediately took over from the duo for the Carabao Cup clash against Tottenham Hotspur. He continued in goal for our demolition of Crystal Palace last weekend.
The official statement by Senegal confirms that the player will undergo further tests at Chelsea. Hopefully, he will not be out for long and will return to action as quickly as possible.
The news could come as a boon for Kepa, who is keen to win back his place in the Chelsea XI. If Mendy is indeed ruled out to face the Saints, it remains to be seen who Lampard chooses to go with in goal.
