24-year-old new signing reveals why he chose to join Chelsea in the Premier League

Timo Werner made a ‘hard decision’ to join Chelsea

According to The Independent, Timo Werner has revealed why he joined Chelsea this summer.

The 24-year-old was one of the biggest transfers of the window so far after he joined the club from RB Leipzig. One of Europe’s most prolific strikers, his addition will significantly boost the Blues attack.

He was heavily linked with a move to Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool. Werner even publically spoke of his admiration of the English champions.

Thankfully for us, the Reds were unable to make a move for the player. This was due to the financial implications of the coronavirus pandemic. It gave Chelsea a chance to swoop in and that we duly did.

He now admits that his mind was made up after manager Frank Lampard spoke to him of his vision for the club.

“I’ve come here to win titles, Chelsea is a big club and a club that always wants to win,” said Werner.”

The German ace admits in no uncertain terms that he is at the club to win trophies. For a side looking to get back to the top, being led by such an ambitious player should work wonders.

Liverpool were keen on Werner

In love with the English game!

He got his first taste of football in England last season. He scored the winner as Leipzig visited Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League.

Werner scored on the night at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium and was left in awe of the atmosphere. This strengthened his desire to come to the Premier League.

“I wanted to have the feeling to play in the Premier League, to play for such a big club like Chelsea. And that’s why I came here.”

While Werner does admit to talking to other clubs such as Liverpool, he eventually chose Chelsea. From the looks of it, he has no regrets in doing so.

“I think it was a hard decision in the end but I am very, very excited and proud that I decided like this because now when I have been here for at least one and a half months, it feels right.”

Werner could be set to make his home debut against Liverpool this Saturday.

The matchup will provide an early assessment of our status as title challengers. It would be a fitting response if the German is the difference-maker on the night.
