Edouard Mendy will sign for Chelsea, confirms Rennes manager
As reported by Metro, Rennes head coach Julien Stephan has confirmed that goalkeeper Edouard Mendy is on his way to Chelsea.
The 28-year-old Mendy has been heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge in recent weeks. There have been reports claiming that the deal is all but done, but there hasn’t been an official announcement as of yet. (h/t Metro)
Talks were held up as Rennes were demanding Fikayo Tomori on loan from the Blues. However, after being rejected by the Premier League giants they gave in and have agreed over a £22m permanent transfer. (h/t Metro)
And manager Stephan has confirmed that indeed is the case, claiming that Rennes are already scouring the market for replacements. (h/t Metro)
“We’re looking for a goalkeeper, it’s no secret. Edouard will certainly leave us to join Chelsea. In this position, we need to get someone in very quickly.”
This is great news for Chelsea fans, who will be waiting with bated breath for the deal to go through. More so, after Kepa Arrizabalaga’s latest error in the Liverpool game where he passed the ball straight to Sadio Mane for him to score.

It was expected that Mendy, once he arrived, would be challenging Kepa for the No.1 spot. Lampard, too, had recently claimed that he pleased with the former Athletic Bilbao man.
However, after the Spaniard’s latest display, it won’t be a surprise to see the Senegalese star become the first-choice at Stamford Bridge.
With Stephan claiming that the deal all but done, an official confirmation is now awaited.
