Rennes demand at least £30m for Chelsea target Edouard Mendy
According to The Telegraph, Rennes will demand at least £30million from Chelsea for Edouard Mendy.
The Senegalese international is seen as a player to add competition to the goalkeeping ranks of Frank Lampard’s side. The Blues have already made one unsuccessful attempt at signing him this summer.
It will take around €40million for Rennes to part with their number one. At 28, he is believed to be in his prime and will still have a number of years left at his peak.
Lampard is keen to bring in Mendy to compete alongside Kepa Arrizabalaga. The Chelsea number one has failed to live up to his reputation as the world’s most expensive keeper.
A number of high-profile errors saw him get benched in favour of Willy Caballero towards the end of last season.
Kepa for his part is keen to stay and fight for his place at the club. Chelsea could find it difficult to get rid of the Spaniard without taking a significant hit, just two years after signing him.
Mendy impressed last season in Ligue 1 and was a regular for Rennes. He helped the club reach third place in the table before the season was curtailed. This saw them qualify for next season’s Champions League.
The 28-year-old spent his whole career in France and has made over 100 appearances in the top two French divisions. Mendy signed for Rennes last summer and has since made 34 appearances for the club. (h/t Transfermarkt)
