A View From The Bridge

“There’s a possibility” – Lampard gives an update regarding young Chelsea star’s future

Frank Lampard admits Ruben Loftus-Cheek could leave Chelsea on loan

According to The Guardian, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has admitted that Ruben Loftus-Cheek could leave the club on loan this summer.

The Blues have enjoyed an excellent summer and have strengthened their squad immensely. With the deadline day edging closer, it remains to be seen who else comes in or leaves.

One of the players who could be on their way out is Loftus-Cheek. The midfielder endured a difficult campaign last time around due to injury. He has not looked the same since returning and could be sent out on loan for rehabilitation.

“There’s a possibility that Ruben may go out to play games because that would be great for him.”

Lampard has revealed that the player does have a future at the club. He also went on to add that the 24-year-old could benefit from going out on loan. Loftus-Cheek has been left out of our last three Premier League matchday squads.

Interest in the player is high, with a number of clubs keen. His suitors include the likes of Aston Villa, Southampton and West Ham United. All three can offer him better game time than what he currently gets at Chelsea.

“We hold him in very high regard. I certainly do and that could be a good option for him.”

The Chelsea manager has no doubt that the player will continue to give his best even if he stays put at the club. Lampard reiterated that he has both the player and the club’s best interests at heart.

A reputation to rebuild

The 24-year-old was a promising talent who looked to be on the cusp of breaking out under former boss Maurizio Sarri. Unfortunately, an Achilles injury derailed his development, sidelining him for more than a year.

The form he showed prior to the setback was exemplary. Lampard is aware of it and knows what the player can bring to the table.

“Just before his injury he was playing really well and contributing. I was always looking forward to him getting back fit and working with him.”

While it is always good to see an academy lad make it at the club, the truth remains that not all may tread the same path.

Loftus-Cheek is a talented player who still has his best years ahead of him. A move away could be the best best for him as he needs to be playing regularly.

Having to play a peripheral role will also affect his chances of making the England squad for next summer’s Euros.
