As reported by the Evening Standard, Chelsea youngster Conor Gallagher is set to join Crystal Palace on loan for the 2020/21 season after having completed his medical.
The 20-year-old Gallagher has been on the books of the club since 2008 and has progressed well through the youth ranks.
Having impressed with the Chelsea U23s in the 2018/19 campaign, he was loaned out to Championship outfit Charlton Athletic for the first half of the 2019/20 season. He spent the second half at Swansea City, where he played a key role in their playoff finish.
In total, Gallagher racked up 47 appearances across all competitions for Charlton and Swansea combined. The Englishman produced an impressive return of six goals and eleven assists.
In spite of him making a solid impression on loan, Gallagher was unlikely to get a lot of first-team action at Chelsea. More so, considering the signing of Hakim Ziyech and the potential arrival of Kai Havertz.
And, thus, the young attacking midfielder is now set to leave on loan, to Premier League side Crystal Palace. It is claimed that the 20-year-old has already completed his medical over the weekend. (h/t Evening Standard)
Gallagher will now be hoping to follow in the footsteps of another Chelsea academy product – Ruben Loftus-Cheek. The England international too cut his teeth on loan at Palace, before becoming a regular at Chelsea.
A move is expected to be made official only after Chelsea have tied the young Englishman to a new contract. (h/t Evening Standard)
Gallagher is currently joining up with the England U21 team, where he will join forces with future Palace teammate Eberechi Eze.
