Chelsea star Olivier Giroud agrees in principle to join Juventus
According to journalist Gianluca di Marzio (h/t Daily Star), Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud has agreed in principle to join Serie A champions Juventus.
The 33-year-old is seen as as an alternative to Barcelona ace Luis Suarez. Juventus are keen to bring in a new striker to replace Gonzalo Higuain. The Argentine had earlier enjoyed a loan spell at Chelsea. (h/t Daily Star)
Giroud saw himself elevated to the first-choice striker following the restart last season. He played a key role as the Blues finished in the top four.
The Frenchman could, however, struggle to remain Frank Lampard’s top striker in the upcoming campaign. This is owing to the Blues capture of German ace Timo Werner. Young Englishman Tammy Abraham will also look to regain his spot in the team.
Di Marzio goes on to add that Giroud has agreed on a two year deal with Juventus. (h/t Daily Star)
Although Michy Batshuayi has left for Crystal Palace on loan, new signing Kai Havertz is capable of playing upfront if needed. In fact, it can be argued that Giroud could find himself to be the fourth choice striker if things don’t go his way.
With the Euros set to be held next summer, Giroud is keen to make the French squad. National team boss Didier Deschamps had earlier revealed that the striker must play regularly to stand a chance. (h/t Football.london)
Playing week in week out could be difficult at Chelsea given the wealth of options. With the deal apparently hinging on whether Juventus can land Suarez, it remains to be seen what happens. (h/t Daily Star)

The Frenchman was linked with a move to Inter Milan during the January transfer window. He, however, stayed put and was even rewarded with a one-year deal in May. (h/t Mirror)
Chelsea value Giroud at around £4.6m, a snip for a player who is aged but remains a potent striker nevertheless.
