“Lampard pull”, “About time” – Several Chelsea fans in joy as club announce yet another new arrival

Twitter reacts as Chelsea confirm Edouard Mendy signing

As confirmed by the club’s official site, Chelsea have completed the signing of Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.

The 28-year-old has penned a five-year deal and will compete with Kepa Arrizabalaga and Willy Caballero for the starting spot in goal.

The Senegalese star has expressed his joy at joining Chelsea and is keen to link up with Frank lampard and his new teammates.

“I am so excited to be joining Chelsea. It’s a dream for me to be a part of this exciting squad and to work with Frank Lampard and all of his coaching staff. I look forward to meeting my team-mates and can’t wait to get started.”

A goalkeeper was high on the agenda this summer following a string of unconvincing performances by Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Despite getting back his starting spot, the Spaniard failed to make most of it and once again made a game-changing error against Liverpool.

Edouard Mendy has joined Chelsea

While Mendy may not be the biggest name out there, he has the potential to be our saviour between the sticks.

It has been a busy summer at Chelsea and Mendy could yet be our most significant purchase. It remains to be seen if he will go straight into the line-up this weekend.

We take a look at how Chelsea fans reacted to the news on Twitter.
