Chelsea to complete two more transfers once £90m Havertz deal is done

Chelsea eye two more transfers once Kai Havertz deal is completed

According to the Daily Star, Chelsea are far from done in the summer transfer window.

The Blues have been the most active team in the market this window. They have already signed five first-team players so far.

Once completed, it will make him the Blues’ record signing. The record is currently held by Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Chelsea are set to make two more transfers after signing Kai Havertz

Despite the prospect of adding the German ace, Lampard’s side are keen to address two other deficiencies in their squad.

Addressing a key weakness

According to the Sun (h/t Daily Star), the Blues will make a move for Declan Rice once the Havertz deal is done.

If completed, Rice will become the third centre-back to sign for us this summer. Thiago Silva for all his qualities is a short-term option while Malang Sarr still has much to learn. The latter will spend the 2020/21 campaign out on loan.

Declan Rice is a target for Chelsea

Rice is a player who can add much to the Chelsea backline. He is familiar with Chelsea, having spent time at the club’s academy until the age of 14.

West ham have so far held firm over their star player. Their stance may soften if they are unable to sell anyone for a huge fee.

As per a report by Football Insider (h/t Daily Star), the other player on Lampard’s list is AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. The Blues boss lacks faith in Kepa and is keen to bring in a new number one.

The Italian is one of the best young goalkeepers in world football. With his contract expiring next summer, the Blues could make a move.

Chelsea however are yet to make an approach. One option that has been mooted is a swap deal that will see Kepa move in the other direction, initially on loan.

Having reinforced the attack, it is heartening to see Lampard attempt to strengthen at the other end.

The defence was our Achilles heel last season. The prospect of not strengthening would have left us thin and at the risk of making the same mistakes again.
