Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur could face off in the Carabao Cup fourth round

According to The Sun, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are on a collision course to face off in the Carabao Cup fourth round.

This will come to fruition if we get the better of Barnsley and Spurs defeat Leyton Orient in the third round.

The potential tie will see two teams who have had excellent summer windows. In many ways, it could prove to be a game to watch if both managers decide to take it seriously.

Chelsea could face Tottenham Hotspur in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup

Chelsea and Spurs have met twice in the final of the competition. Spurs got the better of us in 2008 while we repaid them the favour in 2015.

Both clubs have won the competiition a combined nine times. Chelsea has lifted the EFL trophy five times with our last triumph coming in 2015.

The clash will also see former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho return to the Bridge. Frank Lampard led the Blues to a double over Spurs last season as the apprentice showed the master up.

Jose Mourinho has won the competition thrice with Chelsea

The Portuguese has, however, won the competition four times, thrice with Chelsea and once with Manchester United. This puts him joint top with Sir Alex Ferguson and Brian Clough. Another victory will see him break away as the most successful manager in the competition.

Hopefully we can prevent that enroute to Lampard writing his name in the history books.

The other potential mouthwatering tie of the round is Arsenal vs Liverpool. Both teams met each other in the same round last season. In a thoroughly thrilling game, Liverpool prevailed on penalties after the match ended 5-5.

Lampard is seeking his first title as Blues boss

More Chelsea News

While the Carabao Cup is seen as the less desirable of all the trophies, it is at the end of the day an honour.

More so, it will also be the first major final to be played in the season. Going all the way will surely give us the momentum to go on and end the season on a high.
