According to the Metro, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard believes it is only a matter of time before Kai Havertz makes an impact.
Signed for a massive £71million from Bayer Leverkusen, the German ace has failed to light up the game in his first two games in blue.
A rather quiet outing at the Amex Stadium was followed by the abject loss to Liverpool at the Bridge. He was taken off in the latter match at half time after Chelsea went down to 10 men.
However, it can be argued that him being taken off against Liverpool was due to Andreas Christensen’s red card. In fact, he showed flashes of his ability in the first half when he attempted to set up Timo Werner. Unfortunately, the German shot wide with the score still at 0-0.
It was suggested by Jamie Carragher after the match that Lampard could struggle to find Havert’z best position.
The Blues boss is not worried and is confident that the 21-year-old will come into his own once he gets accustomed to the Premier League.
“He needs time, Kai Havertz. He trained just a few days before Brighton, again he’s had to recover and get ready for this game.”
Havertz occupied different positions in his first two games for Chelsea. The German played a deeper role against Brighton before starting in a central role up front against Liverpool.
His quality is undoubted and it is only a matter of time before we see the best of the 21-year-old.
The loss to Liverpool was also a harsh lesson. While we may have strengthened the squad in the summer, it will take time for the players to be introduced and also gel together.
With 36 more games to go in the Premier League, there is much to be played for.
