Timo Werner snubbed Manchester City in favour of Chelsea
As reported by German publication Bild (h/t Express), blockbuster Chelsea signing Timo Werner snubbed a chance to join Manchester City in favour of a move to Stamford Bridge.
Werner was a subject of interest from a host of top clubs this summer. Liverpool had been earmarked as favourites to land the German international prior to the pandemic breaking out. (h/t Express)
Manchester United also had an interest in the striker, with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer even speaking with Werner to sway his decision to move to Old Trafford. (h/t Express)
However, Werner snubbed both the clubs in order to sign for Chelsea. And now, it is being claimed that Liverpool and United weren’t the only two clubs that the German rejected, with Manchester City also losing out in the race for him. (h/t Express)
As per the report, Man City manager Pep Guardiola made a shock move to recruit the former RB Leipzig striker. However, Werner had made up his mind to sign for Chelsea after having spoken with our manager Frank Lampard.
Indeed, Werner has spoken previously as to how words with Lampard helped him make the decision to move to the Bridge. (h/t Express)
“He [Lampard] was the main point. He knows me now a little bit better and it fits very well between us and now I am happy to be here.”
